    Description

Original speech by Senator William Windom, sometime between 1879 and 1833, on why large numbers of former slaves were moving out of the Southern states in a diaspora to Northern cities and the West. It includes original historical content about, for example, men in the South sentenced to multi-year prison sentences on the chain gang for "trifling offenses" in essentially a return to slavery. This document includes original interviews with the Black men who faced these conditions.
Very good condition. Pages are still supple and not brittle. This speech has been excepted from a larger book and stitched together with cotton thread, which has broken. About 5 1/2" x 8", 24 pages.
An important piece of Civil Right history and a meaningful addition to any collection. I ship every day the post office is open with your item safely packed for protection. I always combine shipping.
